A film by Teatr Strefa Otwarta (Poland)
This meeting of Othello and Desdemona takes place in the afterlife. It is a journey through the hell of returning to past events, becoming aware of the enormity of the suffering and guilt. It is an analysis of the mechanisms of evil, its slow penetration into Othello’s life. The characters play out a theater of cruelty among themselves, and build a kind of psychodrama, in order to re-personate roles and situations, and through that to try to arrive at at least a partial understanding of the atrocity that happened.
Teatr Strefa Otwarta (Anna Rakowska and Piotr Misztela) are well known to York Shakes audiences having been part of the programme in 2015 with H20 and 2019 with Bez Sennosc.
