Everything to Everybody

An Introduction to the Birmingham Shakespeare Memorial Library

Thursday April 27 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm

York St John University Creative Arts Centre

Did you know that Birmingham is home to one of the largest (and the first!) great Shakespeare libraries in the world? Opened in 1868, this collection holds over 100,000 items in 95 languages, documenting and celebrating how people across the globe have experienced, produced and been inspired by Shakespeare for over 400 years.

‘Everything to Everybody’ is a National Lottery Heritage Funded collaboration between the University of Birmingham that runs until December 2023. Working with academic institutions, arts organisations, community partners and volunteers, it aims to restore, raise awareness of and celebrate this extraordinary and unique collection.

Join Lauren Jansen-Parkes, ‘Everything to Everybody’s Community Engagement and Volunteer Officer for a whistle-stop tour of the collection. Find out how it came to be, and explore the question at the heart of the E2E project: Can, and should, the Shakespeare Collection really be ‘Everything to Everybody’?

Live and streamed

The presentation will be presented twice, at 12 noon and 2:00 pm and will last 90 minutes. It will also be live streamed at 12 noon BST (British Summer Time) and you can join us on this link: : https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82431235109

Tickets are free but places must be reserved as space is limited.
