Saturday 3rd May, 10:00am – 4:45pm
York St John University Creative Centre Recital Room (CC/201)
This year’s European Shakespeare Research Association Symposium at York St John University focuses on Shakespeare and Our Histories. Convened by Dr Saffron Vickers Walkling and Mie Ørbæk Claridge, the event explores personal and collective histories. Keynote speaker Darren Freebury-Jones, author of Shakespeare’s Borrowed Feathers, will discuss Shakespeare’s sources and the mutual influence between him and his contemporaries. Panel topics include Lambs’ Tales from Shakespeare in China, translating sonnets, YISF’s work with refugees/asylum seekers in York, plus the festival’s artistic director, Philip Parr, on Pericles and small boat migration. To bring in a live performance element, the YSJ Shakespeare Society will also present pop-up contributions from Much Ado About Nothing!
We will be joined for the day by local booksellers from Fox Lane Books. They will set up a pop-up shop featuring a curated selection of Shakespeare-related books and merchandise. They will also be hosting a book-signing with Darren Freebury-Jones who will be signing copies of his book, Shakespeare’s Borrowed Feathers.
