Welcome to the home of the York International Shakespeare Festival.
We are a biennial festival presenting around 10 days of exciting Shakespeare productions and productions and events derived from Shakespeare, and celebrating Shakespeare as an International writer.
2023 sees the 5th edition of the York International Shakespeare Festival – after a completely online festival in 2021, we’re delighted to be back in person in York and working with so many partners.
This year we will run from April 21- May 1, and we will present international work, work from the United Kingdom and from York.
International highlights include a production of A Midsummer Nights Dream from Ukraine, and other artists from Poland, Croatia and Romania. There will be World and UK premieres, storytelling in schools and libraries, book launches, seminars, lectures and exhibitions.
Here in York, some of our venue partners are:
York St John University
Riding Lights Theatre at Friargate
Theatre @ 41
York Theatre Royal
University of York
We hope you’ll come and join us!
